Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos talked about "High Standard" on his "Letter to Shareholder 2017".
(Words in bracket were added)
Q: Is high standard intrinsic or teachable?
A: Teachable and learnable. (Aligns with Carol Dweck's growth mindset concept)
Q: Is high standard universal or domain specific?
A: Domain specific. In other words, even if you are expert in one domain, you need to learn the definition of high standard when you step into another domain. But the good news is that it keeps you humble. There are many things in the world you don't know about. (And knowing high standard is teachable and having a growth mindset could accelerate your re-learning of high standard)
Q: What does a culture of high standard look like?
A: It shows in the invisible work that no one is watching. When no one is watching and people are doing good work, you have formed a culture of high standard. High standard itself is its own reward (Aligns with Dan Pink's concept of intrinsic motivation). And, once you set high standard, there’s no going back.
Highly recommend that you read the the original "Letter to Shareholder" in full.
