Q: Why is LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® so effective?
A: In LSP, we build a 3D model, give it a metaphorical meaning, and express our inner thoughts through storytelling. When we do these things, we activate our visual, auditory, and kinesthetic senses, arouse emotional response, and hardwire the acquired knowledge and insight into long term memory, accessible when the appropriate situation arises. This is why you can recall the experience of dissecting a frog in high school biology class 20 years ago but fail to remember anything from the training you attended last week.

Q: Do people get carried away by playing and forget about learning?
A: Playing with LEGO® bricks is simply a means, not an end. The secret of LSP is not about playing, but to achieve an end (inspired thinking, self-awareness, diversity appreciation) through the means of strategic, serious play. There are different kinds of “means” in learning; however, research has indicated that play is often a more effective means compared to others.

Q: I am not a creative or artistic person, so is LSP for me?
A: Counter question: Do you have a brain, a pair of hands and a mouth? If you do, this is for you. In fact, whether you are creative or conventional, introverted or extroverted, high education or not-so-high, LSP can help you. Caution: we have seen countless so-call non-creative, introvert people speaking nonstop in the class to the point we almost need to stop them!

Q: After getting certified, is there any royalty or licensing fee I need to pay every time I conduct a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop?
A: Not at all. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is an Open Source methodology (although it is owned by the LEGO® Group) which means that you are free to conduct LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshops in any way you like once you are certified as a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Facilitator. One requirement though: you must use genuine LEGO® bricks in your workshop!

Q: Is there an age restriction to join a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® workshop?
A: Yes and no. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® was originally designed to be used in the world of business with adults. However, since its inception, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® has been adapted by practitioners worldwide in different areas and audience. The methodology is now being used in almost any topic: life coaching, children with special educational needs, marriage counselling, sex education for teenagers, trauma therapy, social innovation initiatives, you name it. With careful design and skillful facilitation, it can suit almost any topic and audience type. The sky is the limit!

Q: There are a few companies in the market offering LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator training. What’s the differences between each provider?
A: Well, we haven’t attended other programs so we can’t tell you the exact differences. What we can tell you is that our program is developed by Strategic Play®, whose owner, Jacqueline Lloyd Smith, was part of the first generation of LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® trainers who originally worked with the LEGO® Group in the evolution of the methodology. Armed with rich industry knowledge and academic rigor, the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® facilitator training by Strategic Play® is now a sought-after program in the realm of play all over the world. Our trainer, Brian Tang, is the first Chinese speaking licensed trainer of the LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® method in the Greater China area.
