Improve your leadership by changing the context

People exhibit different leadership behaviors in different context and environment, which shape the degree to which we act like a leader. One may exhibit strong leadership traits in one context but is comparatively reserved in another. For example (real case, fake name), Susan is a natural leader in her family, taking initiatives to care for the family members and making the major decisions. However, when she went to work abroad in a country where she didn't speak the language, she was mostly a follower. Not until she started picking up on her work and gained her confidence did she resume her leadership traits.
Takeaway: If you are exhibiting leadership now, ask yourself how much of it is supported by the context or environment. Even when you are doing well, you gotta know what makes you well. If you are not behaving like a leader, ask if changing the context or environment would help. Act accordingly.
