You know reading is good for you, personally and professionally. But whenever you open a book and see the unending rows of texts, you either close the book immediately or you fall asleep. You know reading is good, but you just hate doing it. Does it sound familiar to you?
Try the following tactics.
1. Start with the section you are interested. Most of us start reading a book from page 1. No! Instead, scan through the table of contents and dive right into the section that is of interest to you. This will keep your eyes on the book from the get go. Too many people start with the prologue and couldn't even make it through the first chapter.
2. Share what you learn with others. Tell people what you are reading and generously share your insight. When you engage others with your reading, you are turning an individual activity into social activity, and you will be more compelled to go on reading. Besides, spreading insights itself is a great thing to do.
3. Don't force yourself to finish the whole book. Many people are "scared" to start reading because they don't think they can finish reading all 289 pages from end to end. I am telling you to scrap this thought. Follow advice #1. Keep on reading if the book interests you. When you feel like you have exhausted the nutrition out of it, put it away. Forcing yourself to finish all pages are both time wasting and self-sabotaging.
Hope this helps. Now, start reading.
